Giving feedback is a challenge. Receiving feedback is a challenge. I recently provided a training on giving feedback to a team within banking. I focused on leading up and down the chain of command, while ensuring action is taken.
I believe in kind candor. You get nowhere without honesty, but you also destroy the team and performance without kindness. Combine the dichotomy of empathy and candor and you will develop the needed emotional intelligence to lead a team.
